What does Chartered Financial Planner mean?

The title Chartered Financial Planner status is the ultimate symbol of professionalism. The title is granted by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the professional body for insurance and financial services.

The title applies to appropriately qualified CII members who are providing financial planning advice or related activities, to individuals or corporate entities.

Our individual Chartered status means a lot to us and it was not easily achieved! It takes continuous investment in our knowledge and professorial development to maintain this title.

Attaining Chartered takes commitment and demonstrates the following:

  • Differentiation– an elite group of professionals at the forefront of their profession
  • Specialised knowledge– Deep and broad experience gained through studying
  • Acknowledged professionalism– Parity with other professionals and reinforced credentials
  • Public Perception – The title is the trusted mark of professionalism and benefits from consumer confidence

What does it take to be a Chartered individual?

  • Hold a professional level CII qualification – In our Advisers case we hold both the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning AND the Fellowship of the CII for the Financial Planner title. (CII qualifications equivalent to first degree level)
  • Have at least five years’ relevant industry experience – We hold many more than this, in fact the collective number of years between us would start to show our age!
  • Be a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute or the Personal Finance Society, depending upon the title being applied for – We are members of the Chartered Insurance Institute
  • Adhere to the CII’s Code of Ethics – This is something we constantly do and pride ourselves on
  • Be able to demonstrate that their continuing professional development (CPD) is up to date and commit to an ongoing programme of CPD – We are always continuing our professional development and document this thoroughly
